Museum Docents The El Dorado County Historical Museum is prospecting for volunteers. Discover a golden opportunity by working as a docent in one of the country's most unique museums. Help people from across the county and around the world explore the rich history of El Dorado County. The museum exhibits history from the Gold Rush to the American migration West. Each year, thousands of visitors tour the museum, and the number is growing. The museum is located at 104 Placerville Drive in Placerville. Interested volunteers may stop by or call 621-5865. Senior Crafters WantedCrafters 60 years and older are invited to sell their crafts in the Gold Nugget gift Shop, located in the Senior Center lobby, 937 Spring St, Placerville. Handcrafted items made by senior citizens are sold Monday-Friday between 9:30am-1:30pm; Thursdays 10am-2pm. the gift shop is looking for new craft items to feature. Do you have a special talent but have never tried to sell your crafts, try featuring a sample of your work here. A portion of the proceeds is returned to the Senior Center. Commodities Distributors Volunteers needed to help once a month with the commodities distribution facilitated by the Department of Community Services. Volunteers are needed to assist at the check-in desk and with packing products for carry out at several locations: Placerville Fairgrounds, Mt. Drivers The Senior Nutrition Program is looking for responsible adult volunteers to deliver meals to home-bound elderly in the Western Slope communities. Drivers are needed for routes in Placerville, Diamond Springs. Cameron Park and El Dorado Hills. A delivery route takes about an hour to complete. Volunteers transport food in insulated food containers. Training is provided and mileage is reimbursed at 32 cents per mile. OmbudsmenThe Long Term Care Ombudsman Program is recruiting volunteers for a 36-hour training that will certify volunteers to act as advocates on behalf of elderly residing in long term facilities in El Dorado County. There are more than 6,000 volunteers throughout the U.S. who carry on unrelenting efforts to make our nations' long-term care facilities safe and responsive to the needs of the 2.4 million residents who live in convalescent and board-and-care homes. The Ombudsmen also play an important role in detecting, reducing and preventing costly Medicare and Medicaid fraud. Activity Assistants The Senior Day Care Center needs assistans to help with regularly scheduled activities during morning or afternnon hours. Lunch Servers Responsible adult volunteers are needed to serve lunch to senior citizens at the El Dorado Hills Community Services District site as well as in Shingle Springs and Placerville. Help is needed with the sign-in talbe.
